OUR STORY

ABOUT HEY BROWN GIRL

As a single mother raising a young brown girl. Somedays can be very challenging, but my main go-to is “lead by example.” At a very young age my daughter would question why her hair was curly and my hair was straight. She would often ask, why she couldn’t have straight hair like mine.

I would always tell her that her hair was pretty just the way it was. It became an on going situation. Until one day I had to question myself. How could I tell her that her hair was beautiful, yet continue to straighten my hair? So I decided to cut my hair and go natural.

Point of the story, after cutting my hair and going natural she began to embrace her natural hair. Of course as brown girls, we tend to mimic our environment or what we see on tv, but as a brown girl myself I think it is important to love the skin your in.

That’s why this label is so personal for me, because not only have I experienced trying to look like the idea person growing up; and having a young brown girl of my own, I would never want for her to feel as though she has become a product of our society.

"Always remember, you were beautiful the moment you decided to be you!"
